The register as a guide
In your umc, numerous substances and preparations are purchased and used every day. But does a substance or mixture fall under the hazardous substances or not? And what rules apply when working with the material? Nobody knows all the regulations. Therefore, when you buy a new fabric, do the following:
- Check whether a substance or preparation falls under the hazardous substances. To doe this, consult:
- The NFU database for hazardous substances of the joint umcs.
- The registration of hazardous substances from your department or from your umc. You can consult the safety data sheets (SDSs) via the register.
- The supplier. The supplier is also obliged to provide a safety data sheet with every first delivery.
- Your occupational health and safety advisor (arboadviseur).
And further:
- Check whether you need a permit for the hazardous substance.
- Check for other requirements, such as an end-user declaration for:
- dual-use substances in the context of CBRN
- precursors for drugs or explosives
Based on the risks, check whether all necessary procedures, regulations and facilities are in place, such as the right storage facility, appropriate ventilation, specific containment level and the necessary waste stream facilities. If this is not the case, take the necessary measures. If you do not know what they are, please contact your occupational health and safety advisor.
If you already have substances in use that are not in the register, have them included.
