What is SZA (Specific Hospital Waste)

Specific Hospital Waste (SZA) originates from human and animal health care, for which specific attention is required on the basis of ethical, environmental, hygienic and safety considerations. SZA is considered hazardous infectious waste and is bound by the transport regulations (UN3291). Make sure that SZA is collected in the correct waste drums. Close the drums carefully and provide the SZA drums with the correct labelling.
Some examples of specific hospital waste are:
- Waste from clinical and microbiological laboratories that is contaminated with bacteria, viruses or fungi.
- Sharp objects regardless of origin, such as injection needles, clipped capillaries and scalpels.
- Blood tubes.
- Blood, plasma and other pasty or liquid waste (such as wound fluid, drain fluid and pus) that has not dried and is therefore still in liquid form.
- (Residues of) cytostatics.
